Shettima departs Abuja for Davos to attend World Economic Forum

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent Nigeria at the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

In a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), it was announced that Shettima will join global leaders, top business executives, and development partners to discuss the state of the world economy and explore ways to improve it.

During his time in Davos, the Vice President will hold bilateral meetings with other leaders and participate in various workshops and forums planned for the event.

One of the key sessions Shettima will attend is a workshop on the “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets,” organized by the African Development Bank in collaboration with the WEF. The session will focus on enhancing capital flow into Africa’s frontier markets, scaling solutions to foster a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient continent. It will take place at the Congress Centre in Jakobshorn.

A major highlight of the meeting will be the announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, developed in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB). This initiative aims to foster public-private sector partnerships to mobilize investment into Africa’s frontier markets.

Shettima will also attend an exclusive dinner for heads of state, government officials, international organizations, and Annual Meeting 2025 Crystal Awardees at Kurpark Village, Eiger.

In addition, the Vice President will co-chair a forum titled “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa,” at the Pischa Congress Centre. This session will focus on the pivotal role of the private sector in advancing the implementation of the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, adopted by the African Union (AU) heads of state and government in January 2024.

As a panelist, Shettima will also participate in a Stakeholder Dialogue titled “Global Risks 2025,” which will explore the increasingly volatile global landscape, driven by geopolitical, technological, and environmental challenges. This discussion will take place at the Aspen 2 Congress Centre.

Shettima will be accompanied by key government officials, including Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Aisha Remi, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja after completing his engagements in Davos.
