Ondo LG poll: Police announce movement restriction on Saturday

The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction on vehicular and motorcycle movement from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, to ensure security during the local government election.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, Police Commissioner Mr. Wilfred Afolabi explained that the restriction is being enforced for security reasons. The statement, shared by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, also informed commuters who may be passing through the state to plan accordingly, as the restrictions will be in place throughout the day.

Essential service providers, including security personnel, health workers, and firefighters, will be allowed to move freely to perform their duties. Emergency situations will also be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

The commissioner urged all eligible voters to comply with the rules governing the election process as they participate in the polls.

“We warn anyone planning to disrupt the election to stay away. We have put all necessary measures in place to address any attempt to cause disruption swiftly,” he said.

Mr. Afolabi further assured that comprehensive security arrangements have been made to protect both voters and election materials, ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the election.
