Manchester Utd’s Maguire given driving ban for speeding

Manchester United’s English defender, Harry Maguire
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been banned from driving for 56 days and fined £1,052 ($1,299) after being caught speeding twice within three days.

Maguire was filmed driving his Range Rover at 85 mph in a 50 mph zone on Wilmslow Road, near Manchester Airport, in March 2024. The incident occurred as he exited a tunnel under the runway.

The 31-year-old England international pleaded guilty to the offence at Bolton Magistrates’ Court on October 2, 2024. His solicitor, Gwyn Lewis, acknowledged the severity of the speeding, stating, “The speed was wholly excessive, and I fully accept that.”

The court was informed that at the time of the March offence, Maguire already had three penalty points on his licence from a previous offence in 2021. Just two days later, on March 7, he was caught speeding again and accrued an additional three penalty points.

Lewis explained that Maguire had been offered a speed awareness course but was unable to attend due to being abroad during the summer months.

As a result, Maguire was fined £666, with additional costs of £120 and a £266 surcharge added to the total fine.
