The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has confirmed that the Nigerian government has forwarded the necessary requirements for the extradition of pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa to Finland.
“Well, I’m sure he is cooling off somewhere,” General Musa said during the 2024 Year-In-Review program on Channels Television on December 31, 2024. “Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say much about that, but I’m happy he has been arrested.”
The defence chief further stated, “The Federal Government has forwarded most of the necessary documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right thing will be done.”
General Musa also noted that the sit-at-home orders propagated by Ekpa and his supporters in the South-East region were losing momentum due to the ongoing military clearance operations.
In November 2024, Finnish authorities arrested Ekpa and four others on suspicion of involvement in terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and financing terrorism. A district court in Lahti had remanded Ekpa, citing probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
Ekpa, a leader of the separatist movement linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been accused of using social media to spread propaganda advocating for the secession of southeastern Nigeria.
