Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with Mohamed Salah on a new contract.
There has been ongoing speculation about the future of the Egyptian winger, whose current deal is set to expire at the end of June. However, according to The Mirror, Salah is now on the verge of signing a two-year extension to stay at Anfield.
Salah’s agent, Rammy Abbas, had initially requested a three-year deal for his client, while Fenway Sports Group had only been prepared to offer a one-year extension. After negotiations, a compromise has now been reached, with the 32-year-old set to continue his time at Liverpool, where he has been since 2017.
Salah, who currently earns around £400,000 per week, has made it clear that money has not been a deciding factor in his contract discussions. The primary concern has been the length of the deal.
Liverpool are also focused on securing new contracts for Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, both of whom are in the final year of their current deals.
Salah remains a key figure for Liverpool, as evidenced by his impressive form this season. In just 14 Premier League appearances, he has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists. Since joining the club, Salah has scored 226 goals in 370 appearances, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
The news of Salah’s contract agreement is a major boost for manager Jürgen Klopp, with his team currently sitting atop the Premier League standings.
Just last month, Salah expressed his disappointment at the lack of a new contract offer. After Liverpool’s win against Southampton, he told a select group of reporters: “We’re almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club. I’m probably more out than in.”
He added, “I’ve been at the club for many years, and there’s no club like this. But in the end, it’s not in my hands. As I said, it’s December, and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”
When asked if he was disappointed by the lack of progress, Salah responded, “Of course, yes. I’m not retiring soon, so I’m just focusing on the season, trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League. I’m disappointed, but we’ll see.”
