Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the representative for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State, has been expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect due to allegations of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
The expulsion was formalized in a letter from the Ideato LGA chapter of the PDP, dated December 5, 2024. The letter, signed by LGA Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh, was addressed to the State Chairman.
The decision followed a report from the party’s disciplinary committee, dated November 27, 2024, which investigated the charges of misconduct against Ugochinyere in accordance with Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended).
Ugochinyere had been suspended by the PDP’s Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024, after failing to respond to repeated invitations to appear before the ward’s Executive Committee on October 5, 2024, to address the allegations. Despite several reminders, he ignored the summons, prompting the suspension.
The letter from the Ideato LGA chapter reads: “Upon receipt of the report, the LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North met on December 5, 2024, and unanimously adopted the report of the disciplinary committee. In light of this, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the PDP with immediate effect, and he ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA.”
The PDP found Ugochinyere guilty of several violations of the party’s constitution, including a persistent failure to attend meetings and participate in party activities, in breach of Section 58 (1)(e) of the PDP Constitution. He was also accused of publicizing internal party disputes without authorization, violating Section 58(1)(i) of the constitution. Additionally, he was found to have established parallel party structures at the ward, LGA, and national levels, undermining the party’s unity and authority.
Moreover, Ugochinyere was charged with consistently making derogatory and provocative statements against the party and some of its national leaders, actions that brought the party into public disrepute.
