NAFDAC uncovers ₦2bn fake alcohol packaging centres in Lagos.
Officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have uncovered illegal counterfeit alcohol packaging operations worth ₦2 billion in Lagos.

The illegal centers, located in the Abule-Osun area, were raided by NAFDAC agents, who seized over 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials intended for fake alcoholic beverages. These items were being used to produce unapproved and potentially hazardous alcohol products.

“NAFDAC has dismantled illegal alcohol packaging operations at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State,” the agency stated in a Thursday post on its X handle. “The raid led to the confiscation of counterfeit materials valued at approximately ₦2 billion.”

The agency reiterated the significant health risks posed by counterfeit alcohol, including poisoning and organ damage. NAFDAC urged consumers to purchase alcoholic beverages only from trusted vendors and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

This operation follows a recent seizure by NAFDAC in Nasarawa State, where counterfeit wines worth ₦41.2 million were confiscated during raids on shops in Mararaba Market, New Nyanya, and Masaka areas.

“NAFDAC’s Investigation & Enforcement team is actively investigating the importers and manufacturers behind these counterfeit products,” the agency said. “We continue to urge consumers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious products to NAFDAC for prompt action.”
