President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to the Super Falcons following the team’s historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria clinched a record-extending 10th continental title.
According to the National Sports Commission (NSC), the players have begun receiving payments of approximately ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the $100,000 reward promised by the President after the team’s remarkable comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final in July 2025.
The Super Falcons produced an impressive second-half performance to overturn a 2-0 deficit and defeat Morocco, reclaiming the African crown and further cementing their position as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed appreciation to Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the gesture as a welcome recognition of the team’s achievements and contributions to Nigerian sports.
The payment underscores the President’s commitment to rewarding sporting excellence and motivating Nigerian athletes to achieve greater success on the international stage.
Since assuming office, Tinubu has extended his support to several Nigerian national teams, with the Super Falcons among the latest beneficiaries of his financial rewards for sporting achievements.
The President had similarly promised and fulfilled a $100,000 reward to members of D’Tigress following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where Nigeria secured an unprecedented fifth consecutive continental title.
The National Sports Commission commended Tinubu for his continued support for Nigerian athletes, noting that his actions demonstrate that sporting excellence deserves tangible recognition.
The commission added that the President’s commitment has strengthened confidence among athletes and sports administrators while promoting a culture of reward, accountability and national pride.
