Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has added another qualification to his growing list of academic achievements after graduating from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship with merit.
The Coventry City forward announced the achievement on X on Tuesday, describing it as another proud milestone away from football.
“Another proud moment for me off the pitch,” Awoniyi wrote.
“Graduating from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship with merit.
“Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues.”
The qualification is the latest in a series of academic pursuits Awoniyi has undertaken alongside his professional football career.
The 29-year-old earned a diploma in Business Administration and Marketing Management from the London School of International Business in 2020 before completing a degree in Business Management at Buckinghamshire New University in 2022.
His latest academic achievement comes just weeks after he began a new chapter in his playing career, leaving Nottingham Forest for newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City.
Awoniyi completed a permanent move to Coventry in August after four years at Forest, where he made 103 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists. The transfer was reportedly worth around £9 million.
The move presented the striker with a fresh opportunity under manager Frank Lampard following a difficult spell at Forest over the previous two seasons.
However, his start at Coventry has been mixed. Awoniyi was sent off during the club’s 5-0 defeat to Brighton on Sunday and will consequently miss Coventry’s Premier League meeting with his former club, Nottingham Forest.
While his latest season has yet to fully take off on the pitch, Awoniyi continues to invest in his future away from football.
His new qualification in global football sport directorship adds to his academic background and could provide a strong foundation for a future career in football management or sports administration after his playing days.
