2027: Atiku not a man you can take his word to the bank – Wike

Nyesom Wike and Atiku Abubakar
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, questioning his credibility and accusing him of frequently changing his position on political matters.

Wike spoke on Tuesday at the unveiling of candidates of the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition, where he faulted what he described as inconsistency in the political positions of the former vice-president, who is associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Recalling his past political dealings with Atiku, Wike said he supported the former vice-president’s presidential ambition in 2019 before contesting against him in the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential primary in 2022.

“I pray you never know him, [Atiku Abubakar]. I ran with him in the 2022 presidential primaries. In 2019, I was one of the biggest sponsors for that presidential election,” he said.

Wike questioned Atiku’s reliability, declaring, “He’s not a man that you can go to the bank with his words.”

The minister alleged that Atiku frequently changed his position, making it difficult for people to rely on his statements.

“He tells you one thing in the morning, he tells you another thing in the afternoon. He tells you something in the evening, the next morning he tells you a different thing,” Wike said.

He challenged his audience to consider whether Atiku’s political conduct made him a leader worth following, asking, “Is he the man you follow?”
