The eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have denied reports that they have returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that their recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu was focused on their suspension and outstanding entitlements.
The lawmakers, through their spokesperson and member representing Bakura Constituency, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, dismissed the reports as false and misleading in an interview with journalists, maintaining that they had neither defected to the APC nor pledged to rejoin the party.
Bakura explained that their visit to the Presidential Villa was intended to discuss the circumstances surrounding their suspension, their unpaid entitlements and possible ways to resolve the issues.
“Neither have we decamped to the APC nor promised to return to the APC. What took us to the Villa was to discuss the problem of why we were suspended, our pending entitlements and how to resolve it,” he said.
The lawmaker added that any decision by the group to formally return to the APC would be communicated publicly, assuring journalists that he would personally announce such a development.
“If we decide to return to the APC officially, I will personally call journalists and other important media houses and brief them,” he added.
The eight lawmakers had recently resigned from the APC before meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.
They were led to the meeting by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.
The meeting sparked speculation that the lawmakers were preparing to return to the APC. However, their latest clarification indicates that discussions with the President centred on their suspension and outstanding entitlements rather than a decision to rejoin the ruling party.
