Wike, Fubara meet amid Rivers reconciliation efforts

Wike, Fubara, and other dignitaries attended the meeting.
Political reconciliation efforts in Rivers State have continued with another meeting between supporters of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, less than two weeks after their previous engagement.

Wike led a delegation comprising mainly members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including its Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, and the 23 local government council chairmen, to meet Fubara and his supporters at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt.

Also part of the delegation was the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda.

The latest meeting marks another attempt by the political leaders to build on previous engagements and find a lasting solution to the protracted crisis that has polarised the state and strained relations between Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly.

However, whether the latest talks will produce a lasting resolution remains uncertain, amid concerns over the perceived dominance of Wike’s camp in the leadership of local government councils and the selection of candidates for the 2027 elections, with Fubara’s supporters seemingly excluded from the political arrangements.
