The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 local government chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions in the Kogi State local government elections held on Saturday.
The results were announced by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) following the collation of results at its headquarters in Lokoja.
Declaring the results, KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda-Eri said the APC secured all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state’s 21 local government areas and 239 wards.
Nda-Eri described the election as peaceful and credible, saying it was conducted in accordance with the commission’s electoral guidelines. He also commended security agencies, election observers, journalists and voters for their orderly conduct during the exercise.
According to him, the conclusion of the polls marked the completion of the 13 activities outlined by the commission for the 2026 local government elections, a process that began nearly a year ago.
He added that Certificates of Return would be issued to the successful candidates in due course.
The outgoing local government chairmen and councillors, who were sworn in on October 23, 2024, are expected to leave office this month following the expiration of their two-year tenure, as stipulated by the state’s electoral law.
