Ukraine has received the bodies of 252 people in an exchange of war dead with Russia, Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday.
Russia received 23 bodies in return, Russian lawmaker Shamsail Saraliev was quoted as saying by the RBK news outlet.
The repatriation of fallen soldiers and the exchange of prisoners of war remain among the few areas of cooperation between the two sides since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“As a result of repatriation measures, the bodies of 252 deceased persons have been returned to Ukraine,” Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said in a statement.
It added that police and other relevant authorities would conduct the necessary examinations and work to identify the repatriated bodies.
