The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Osborn Umahi, has rallied supporters ahead of the August 22, 2026, local government election.
Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, led his campaign in Ohaozara on Monday, August 17, as supporters gathered at the St Margaret Umahi Pavilion in Uburu to express their support for his candidacy.
Umahi had earlier obtained the APC nomination and expression-of-interest forms to contest the Ohaozara chairmanship election before emerging as the party’s candidate.
The campaign formed part of preparations for the Ebonyi State local government election, giving residents and party supporters an opportunity to mobilise behind their preferred candidates ahead of Saturday’s poll.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Francis Nwaze, the Minister of Works’ Senior Special Assistant on Media, the turnout at the campaign reflected growing support for Umahi’s candidacy.
“The people of Ohaozara Local Government Area have demonstrated strong support and enthusiasm for the emergence of their young and vibrant son, Engr. Osborn Umahi, as a new generation of leadership,” the statement said.
It described the campaign as “a strong demonstration of the growing acceptability of Engr. Umahi across the council area.”
Umahi was presented as an engineer, financial expert and seasoned leader, with a background spanning engineering, finance and leadership.
The statement said his experience and exposure had positioned him to provide “purposeful and responsive leadership” if elected.
It added that the atmosphere at the campaign reflected what it described as a growing demand among residents for leadership based on competence, experience, fresh ideas and an understanding of their needs.
“For many of those present, the campaign was not simply about political mobilisation. It was an expression of confidence in one of Ohaozara’s own and a statement of expectation for a new chapter of leadership,” the statement said.
The campaign also emphasised Umahi’s ties to Ohaozara, portraying his candidacy as an opportunity for a younger generation to take on leadership of the local government.
With the election only days away, however, the campaign said the focus had shifted from demonstrating support for the candidate to securing victory at the polls.
“As the August 22 election draws closer, the focus now shifts from acceptability to victory at the polls. The massive support witnessed at the campaign, supporters say, must be translated into votes on Saturday,” the statement said.
The Ebonyi State local government election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
