Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as governor of Osun State.
Davido, who played a prominent role in his uncle’s campaign, shared a celebratory message on Sunday shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the governorship election.
“WE DID IT UNC !!! @aadeleke_01,” the singer wrote on X, alongside a video capturing his reaction to the victory.
As the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, formally announced Adeleke as the winner, Davido erupted in celebration. The singer jumped to his feet, knelt and eventually lay on the floor in excitement.
Members of his team, who were watching the declaration with him, immediately joined the celebrations, cheering alongside the visibly elated singer.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.
The governor won 19 of Osun State’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11.
Adeleke was first elected governor of Osun State in 2022. Ogunwole declared him the winner early Sunday, saying he had satisfied the requirements of the law.
Davido had been deeply involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign, serving as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council. He also put parts of his music career on hold to focus on mobilising support for Adeleke ahead of the election.
During the campaign, the singer participated in rallies and grassroots mobilisation activities, while using his social media platforms to encourage voters to turn out and remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.
In the final days before the election, Davido intensified his campaign activities across Osun, urging voters to reject violence and intimidation and protect their votes.
On election day, he remained active online, commenting on emerging results and calling on supporters to monitor the collation process. He also repeatedly urged INEC and other relevant authorities to ensure transparency in the announcement of the results.
His involvement brought significant visibility to Adeleke’s campaign, with several rallies attracting large crowds and generating widespread attention online.
Following INEC’s declaration, jubilation broke out across Osun, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown.
Supporters gathered around the INEC collation centre in Osogbo and outside the governor’s residence in Ede, singing, dancing and celebrating his victory.
Adeleke’s re-election secures another four-year term for the governor, who won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the Accord Party in December 2025.
