Grammy-nominated Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has revealed that she recently underwent major surgery, assuring fans that she is recovering and will return soon.
The 24-year-old singer disclosed this in an Instagram post on Thursday, where she apologised to her fans for her reduced online presence.
Starr, however, did not reveal the nature of the surgery or provide details about her medical condition.
The singer said the procedure was more complicated than initially anticipated, adding that she only needs some time to rest before resuming her activities.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected,” she wrote.
Encouraging fans to continue supporting her upcoming project, Starr asked them to help promote and pre-order the release.
“I just need a bit of rest and I’ll be back!!!” she added.
“Starrgirl is coming so soooon, I need everyone out there spreading the word, tell your friends, your family, your neighbours!!! Order Starrgirl asap!!! Love you guys.”
Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr rose to prominence after her 2021 hit single, Bloody Samaritan, became a viral success.
Signed to Mavin Records, the singer has established herself as one of Afrobeats’ leading young artistes, earning several awards and nominations, including recognition at the Grammy Awards.
