The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance security operations across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to support aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid response operations in Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, described the arrival of the aircraft as a significant milestone in the state’s drive to improve its security architecture.
“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” the statement said.
Oyelade recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had announced on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.
He added that the government had earlier assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo State before the end of July, noting that Tuesday’s delivery fulfilled that commitment.
According to the commissioner, the surveillance aircraft will support security agencies, including the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), and other security formations in monitoring criminal activities and improving response capabilities across the state.
Governor Makinde was present at the airport to receive the aircraft on their arrival.
The Oyo State Government announced the procurement of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of broader measures to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling emerging security threats.
The delivery comes months after Makinde unveiled plans to acquire modern aerial surveillance platforms to bolster the state’s fight against kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality.
