The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member and four students during an attack on Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m., while students were taking the ongoing NECO examination.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Salisu Oyiza, said the attackers stormed the school and took away the principal, four students and a NECO examination official.
“During the incident, four students, the school principal and one NECO ad hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers,” Oyiza said.
She added that a joint security team comprising police personnel and other agencies had immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation to locate the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
“So far, one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators,” she said.
The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser to the Governor were heading to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
Oyiza added that the Command would provide further updates as soon as more verified information becomes available.
