The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The restriction, which takes effect this week, was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare.

Dare said the decision was aimed at protecting newly completed sections of the superhighway from misuse and premature deterioration.

He explained that the measures were necessary to preserve the integrity of the road and ensure its long-term sustainability.

He also warned that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the highway would no longer be tolerated.

According to him, the restrictions apply to the coastal highway and all bridges across Lagos State.

The ministry further prohibited the indiscriminate dumping of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable.

Dare warned that offenders would face strict enforcement as authorities move to restore order along the corridor.

He said signage indicating the restrictions had already been installed at strategic points along the highway.

Task force officials, he added, would be deployed to key locations to ensure compliance.

Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “world-class infrastructure,” Dare said it must be properly maintained and protected.

He urged road users to comply with the directives in the interest of public safety, stressing that safeguarding the facility would extend its lifespan and preserve its value to Nigerians.
