President Bola Tinubu on Monday received Madagascar’s President, Michael Randrianirina, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.

Randrianirina arrived at the State House Forecourt at about 2:57 p.m. and was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

Following a brief reception ceremony, the visiting leader was escorted to the President’s office, where he held a closed-door meeting with Tinubu.

The visit is expected to deepen bilateral cooperation and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, regional integration, and sustainable development.

Nigeria and Madagascar have continued to engage on key continental issues, with both countries seeking stronger partnerships to advance economic growth and stability across Africa.

Monday’s meeting follows an earlier bilateral engagement between the two leaders on May 12 in Nairobi, Kenya, during the Africa Forward Summit.

During the Nairobi talks, Tinubu and Randrianirina explored opportunities to expand trade relations, boost economic cooperation, and strengthen diplomatic ties between their countries.

They also discussed political developments in Madagascar, with Tinubu reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance, regional stability, and greater African cooperation.

The Nigerian leader further expressed support for efforts to strengthen Madagascar’s engagement with the African Union and promote closer collaboration among African nations.

The Abuja meeting is expected to build on the outcomes of the Nairobi discussions and further consolidate diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Madagascar.
