The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against travelling out of the country without valid travel documents, stressing that such actions are illegal and could expose individuals to serious risks.

The warning was issued in a public alert posted on X on Monday by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) through its Public Relations Officer, DCI AS Akinlabi.

According to the NIS, all international travel must be undertaken with valid passports, visas where necessary, and other approved immigration documents.

The agency cautioned that any attempt to evade official immigration procedures or use unauthorised border routes constitutes a violation of Nigerian law.

The service also expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration syndicates that lure unsuspecting Nigerians — especially young people — with false promises of jobs, education, or improved living conditions abroad.

“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the NIS warned.

It further emphasised that no legitimate travel process bypasses recognised immigration procedures or official border posts.

The Immigration Service urged Nigerians to verify all travel, recruitment and relocation offers through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.

Members of the public were also encouraged to report suspicious migration-related activities to the nearest NIS office or other relevant security agencies.
