President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Aina is a renowned academic and systems engineering expert with extensive experience in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and public-sector institutional reforms.

The incoming JAMB Registrar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Aina reportedly began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where he gained early experience in national admissions administration and data-driven institutional processes.

The presidency noted that with more than 15 years of professional experience, Aina has built a career at the intersection of technology, education policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on digital transition, systems design, and operational reforms.

He has also worked as a consultant for major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

The statement further noted that Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39 and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.

He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would leverage his expertise and experience to build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and further reposition the examination body.

Professor Oloyede assumed office as JAMB Registrar on August 9, 2016. Before his appointment, he served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin from 2007 to 2012 and also chaired both the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and the Committee of Vice-Chancellors between 2011 and 2012.
