JAMB releases 279 previously withheld UTME results

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the release of 279 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results previously withheld over suspected examination malpractice.

The disclosure was made on Thursday in a statement issued by JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, via the Board’s official X account.

According to JAMB, the decision followed ongoing investigations into alleged malpractice cases linked to the 2026 UTME.

The Board explained that while some results were cancelled after evidence of malpractice was confirmed, others were released after investigations showed no prima facie case against the affected candidates.

“Results from centres where the Board’s live monitoring team observed suspicious activities, or where adverse reports were received, remain withheld pending further investigation. Where sufficient evidence of culpability is established, such results will be cancelled,” the statement added.

The 2026 UTME was conducted between April 16 and April 23, with more than two million candidates participating in the computer-based examination across various centres worldwide.

Candidates whose results are still pending were advised to check their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used during registration.

JAMB also unveiled the top scorers in the 2026 UTME, with a candidate seeking admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) emerging as the highest scorer.

For the 2026/2027 academic session, the Board retained 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for university admissions, while 100 was approved for polytechnics.

In addition, JAMB announced that candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes in colleges of education would no longer be required to sit for the UTME.

Under the revised admission guidelines, prospective NCE students will only need a minimum of four O’Level credit passes to qualify for admission.
