Alex Otti has said Abia State can no longer rely solely on the national grid for electricity supply, stressing that his administration is actively exploring alternative energy sources to drive the state’s industrialisation agenda.
Otti made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Jennifer Adighije, at the Government House in Umuahia.
The governor said stable electricity is essential to unlocking the economic potential of key commercial hubs such as Umuahia and Aba, noting that the state government is open to partnerships with organisations capable of improving power generation and distribution.
According to him, the priority of the administration is to ensure steady and reliable electricity supply for businesses and residents, regardless of whether the power comes from the national grid or alternative energy solutions.
Speaking during the visit, Adighije revealed that the 450-megawatt segment of the Alaoji Power Plant has been restored after years of inactivity.
She said the restored facility is expected to contribute about 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, boosting overall power supply in the region.
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company boss also assured the Abia State Government of the company’s commitment to supporting the state’s industrialisation efforts through improved electricity generation and distribution.
