Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai appeared at the Kaduna State High Court on Monday as his trial resumed in a case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
He is standing trial alongside Amadu Sule on charges bordering on abuse of office, fraud, attempted fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
El-Rufai arrived at the court around 9 a.m. under tight security, drawing the attention of supporters, legal practitioners, and members of the public who gathered early for the proceedings.
Inside the courtroom, the hearing was expected to continue with submissions from both the prosecution and defence teams at the time of filing this report.
Before the proceedings began, El-Rufai was reportedly overheard discussing the upcoming African Democratic Congress (ADC) convention with an associate, asking whether it would hold the following day. The associate reportedly replied, “God willing.”
In a separate case, the former governor is also facing a 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, involving allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud totalling ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million. A bail hearing in that case is scheduled for April 14.
Supporters of El-Rufai have expressed confidence that he will be vindicated through the judicial process.
