Woman gifts Soludo live fowl at inauguration

Aambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, takes his oath of office at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Akwa on March 17, 2026.
A 74-year-old woman, Madam Grace Okafor, brought a live fowl as a gift to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s inauguration ceremony in Awka on Tuesday.

Okafor said the gesture was in gratitude for a N100,000 cash gift she had previously received from the governor.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the event, held at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square, drew dignitaries and residents from across Anambra State.

Arriving in a wheelchair, the elderly woman danced toward the podium while carrying the fowl in a bucket, eliciting cheers and applause from the crowd.

A native of Abatete in Idemili North Local Government Area, Okafor revealed that she had invested the N100,000 she received from the governor during an event in Eziowelle community into poultry farming.

“I came to witness the swearing-in of Gov. Soludo, ‘Oluatuegwu,’ because he gave me N100,000 during an event in my community in Eziowelle,” she said.

“I invested the money in poultry, and this fowl is part of the proceeds. I am here to show my appreciation to him.”
