2027: I have no anointed candidates — Gov Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has stated that he has no preferred candidates among the aspirants contesting elective positions in the upcoming primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the disclosure while breaking the Ramadan fast with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, urging aspirants to earn public support and commit to party unity. He emphasized that he will not interfere in the primaries or selection processes, but pledged to back candidates chosen by the people.

“My advice to every aspirant seeking office is to secure the support of party members. I have no anointed candidates for the primaries scheduled between April and May this year. I will abide by the decision of the people,” he said.

Governor Sani also affirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, describing him as his only candidate and promising to support his re-election in 2027. He cautioned aspirants who lose in the primaries against undermining the party, describing such actions as counterproductive.

Recalling his own experiences during previous APC congresses, when many of his supporters were blocked from party positions, the governor said: “At that time, some urged me to work against the party. I refused because I would not undermine the house I helped to build. Today, I am the governor. I urge party members to work for APC’s victory. The opposition will try to exploit divisions, especially after the primaries, but we must resist that temptation. The party belongs to all of us.”

On security, Governor Sani noted that opposition parties may use national security challenges as a campaign tool against APC in 2027, despite having little to offer. He highlighted that the security situation in Kaduna State has improved since his administration took office in 2023, though he acknowledged that more work remains.

He outlined key achievements of his administration, including the reopening of 535 schools and 85 health facilities previously closed due to insecurity. Infrastructure projects include the 35-kilometer Bagoma-Gagumi road, connecting 62 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government, and the contract award for the Mando-Birnin Gwari road.
