Senator Barinada Mpigi is dead

Senator Barinada Mpigi
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Mpigi, is dead. He was 64.

Mr Mpigi died on Thursday, though details surrounding his passing were not immediately disclosed. He was born on June 23, 1961.

Until his death, he represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

A source confirmed his demise to The Telegraph.

Mr Mpigi began his federal legislative career in 2011 when he was elected to the House of Representatives. He was re-elected for a second term in 2016.

In 2019, he won election to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South-East.

During the Ninth Assembly, he chaired a joint Senate committee established to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
