TikToker Mirabel in ICU amid sexual assault probe — Police

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that TikTok content creator Mirabel is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) as investigations proceed into her allegations of sexual assault.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, made the disclosure on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. He explained that police established contact with Mirabel earlier this week after her viral videos detailing the alleged assault sparked widespread public outrage. Officers traced her to the Ibafo area before determining that the reported incident occurred in Ogijo, a border community between Ogun and Lagos states.

“When the DPO in Ibafo met with her, she was taken to the hospital for medical analysis. She wasn’t as stable as necessary, but we ensured the investigation continued. As we speak, she is in the intensive care unit receiving appropriate care. Her medical well-being is our priority. Once she is stable, we can continue investigations and gather all necessary facts,” Babaseyi said.

He stressed that Mirabel’s health remains the immediate priority, and further details will be obtained once she is able to provide a comprehensive account.

Police urge public to avoid speculation

The case has sparked intense debate on social media, with some questioning the authenticity of her claims. Babaseyi cautioned against jumping to conclusions:

“We advise people not to form opinions based on emotions. Our investigation will rely on evidence to reach a logical conclusion,” he said, urging anyone with useful information to come forward.

The spokesman confirmed that some individuals have been invited for questioning but declined to give specifics, citing the need for discretion. He also clarified reports suggesting Mirabel had been arrested: “She was not arrested. She reported a case, and we are investigating. Nothing like her arrest has happened. If the allegation is confirmed, the perpetrator will be arrested and charged. Conversely, the law also addresses giving false information.”

Mirabel’s allegations

The matter came to public attention after Mirabel’s videos went viral on Sunday, in which she alleged that an intruder broke into her home, assaulted her, caused injuries, and forced her to ingest a toxic substance. She also claimed that the suspect later contacted her via social media.

The posts have triggered the #StopRapingWomen campaign online. Initially, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency engaged with the matter, but jurisdiction has since shifted to the Ogun State Police, where the alleged assault occurred.
