NiMet predicts three-day sunshine, cloudiness from Tuesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

In its weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja, NiMet predicted generally sunny conditions over the northern region on Tuesday. The North Central region is expected to experience a hazy atmosphere with a few patches of clouds, while isolated thunderstorms may occur later in the day over parts of southern Kwara State.

For the southern region, NiMet forecast sunny skies with few cloud patches, alongside the likelihood of afternoon and evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.

On Wednesday, sunny conditions are expected to persist across the northern region, while the North Central area will see few clouds and a hazy atmosphere. Isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall are forecast later in the day over parts of southern Kogi, southern Benue, and Kwara states.

The southern region will again experience sunny skies with few clouds, with prospects of thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.

By Thursday, NiMet envisaged a sunny atmosphere over the northern region, with few cloud patches and a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kwara State in the morning. The southern region is expected to record sunny skies with few clouds, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Bayelsa and Cross River states during the afternoon and evening.

The agency warned that dust particles remain in suspension and advised the public to take necessary precautions, especially people with asthma or other respiratory conditions.

NiMet also urged motorists to drive cautiously during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning. Residents were encouraged to stay informed through regular weather updates on the agency’s official website.
