Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially joined the Accord Party, just days after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He made the announcement on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party.
Adeleke revealed that he intends to seek re-election in 2026 under the “Thumb-Up” party, adding that he actually joined the Accord Party more than a month ago.
“I joined the Accord Party on November 6 as a platform to seek re-election in 2026, after weeks of consultation with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke said. “Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We aim to pursue a second term to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been recognized both at home and abroad.”
The governor said he chose the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
“I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the people of Osun State and Nigeria,” he said.
Adeleke emphasized his commitment to inclusive leadership and sustaining good governance across the state. “Since joining the party, I have been fascinated by its philosophy, which prioritizes the welfare of the people. From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never seen such dedication to service delivery,” he added.
He also called on residents from all regions of the state to support the new platform, declaring: “Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. Accord is our party for victory next year. In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and the wishes of the Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
Adeleke formally resigned from the PDP on December 2, citing persistent leadership turmoil at the party’s national level. He submitted his resignation on November 4, 2025, thanking the PDP for the opportunities it provided him as both a senator and governor.
