President Bola Tinubu on Thursday received Letters of Credence from 21 newly appointed foreign envoys at the State House, Abuja.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The envoys—17 ambassadors and four high commissioners—were received during a ceremony at the Council Chamber, where President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
In his address, the President said Nigeria remained firmly committed to promoting peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I warmly welcome you to the State House and congratulate you on your appointments as the official representatives of your respective countries.
“Nigeria values longstanding friendships and strategic partnerships across all regions of the world. Your accreditation today reaffirms the depth of our bilateral ties and our shared commitment to build cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” he said.
President Tinubu urged the diplomats to deepen collaboration in trade, energy, agriculture, education, technology, defence, and cultural exchange, noting that the world continues to grapple with security threats, climate pressures, economic uncertainty, and humanitarian challenges.
“Nigeria is ready to work closely with your governments to promote peace, stability, and prosperity,” he added. “As you begin your duty as partners, I assure you of the fullest cooperation of the government of Nigeria. My doors remain open for constructive engagement, and I trust your tenure in Nigeria will be productive.”
Speaking on behalf of the envoys, the Japanese Ambassador, Suzuki Hideo, described the occasion as historic and emphasised Nigeria’s strategic influence within ECOWAS and across Africa.
“We are honoured and filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude to have presented our Letters of Credence today. It is a historic moment for us all,” he said.
Hideo also noted that Nigeria’s leadership in promoting economic growth and political stability in West Africa has earned it significant global respect.
