In a surprising move that has sent shockwaves through African football, Cameroon’s national team has omitted two of its most seasoned stars, goalkeeper André Onana and forward Vincent Aboubakar, from the final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, “André Onana and Vincent Aboubakar have been left out of the Cameroon squad for the AFCON.”

The decision represents a major shakeup for the Indomitable Lions ahead of one of the continent’s most prestigious tournaments. Onana, who has guarded the nets for top European clubs, and Aboubakar, the veteran forward and long-serving captain, will not feature as Cameroon embarks on a new chapter under refreshed leadership.

The squad selection also highlights a broader generational shift, with younger and less-established players given the opportunity to make their mark ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
