Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested and repatriated 61-year-old Turkish national Acar Huseyin, who fled his country after being convicted of fraud earlier this year.

The Force spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Tuesday that Huseyin was convicted of fraud by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court and sentenced to 14 years, eight months, and 10 days in prison. He fled Turkey shortly after the judgment in an attempt to evade serving his sentence.

Hundeyin explained that the fugitive traveled through the Middle East before arriving in Nigeria.

“In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice requesting member countries to locate and arrest Huseyin. Acting on this request, INTERPOL NCB Abuja carried out discreet, intelligence-led operations that led to his arrest in Abuja,” the statement read.

The fugitive has since been repatriated to Istanbul to commence his sentence, following the completion of necessary documentation and collaboration with relevant international partners.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for the professional operation, emphasizing that Nigeria will not be a haven for fugitives or escaped convicts.

Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s commitment to fulfilling its international obligations, strengthening police-to-police cooperation, and supporting global efforts to combat transnational crime.
