The Rivers State Police Command has debunked a viral social media video claiming that herdsmen attacked communities in the state but were repelled by Ijaw youths.
Describing the claim as false and deliberately misleading, the Command said the video was fabricated to incite fear and disrupt the peace currently enjoyed across the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, affirmed that no incident, report, or intelligence indicated that Fulani herdsmen had attacked any Rivers State community. She described the narrative as a “deliberate attempt by mischief makers to undermine the prevailing peace and stability.”
The police urged residents to disregard the viral content and refrain from sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary tension or damage the state’s reputation.
Iringe-Koko said the Command, working alongside other security agencies, remains fully committed to protecting lives and property. “Robust security measures are in place, including operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads,” she stated, adding that Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju leads a team focused on transparent and accountable policing.
The Command advised the public to remain calm, vigilant, and to verify information through official channels before sharing.
