Mentally unstable teen stabs NSCDC officer to death in Ondo

A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday in the Oba Ile community of Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State, after a 19-year-old man believed to be mentally unstable fatally stabbed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The NSCDC operative was attacked while attempting to restrain the teenager following a distress call from the suspect’s mother.

A resident who witnessed the event, but asked not to be named, told our correspondent that the woman had sought help from two NSCDC officers when her son became uncontrollably violent.

He said, “When the boy started misbehaving this morning, his mother invited two civil defence officers to help her chain him. In the process, he overpowered one of them, disarmed him, and stabbed him with the officer’s own knife.

“It was unfortunate because the officer was armed at the time.”

The NSCDC spokesperson in Ondo State, Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed the incident, describing it as “painful and unfortunate.”

“Yes, it happened. The officer was trying to take the young man to a facility where he could receive treatment,” he said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, also confirmed the development, noting that the NSCDC officer died from injuries sustained during the struggle.

“Yes, it is true that the civil defence officer died while receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said.
