The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Gandonu Lowe, a resident of Omolende Village via Idogo in Yewa South Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to flee with the corpse of his wife tied to a motorcycle and concealed in a sack.
Lowe, suspected of having killed his wife, was intercepted following an intelligence report received by the Divisional Police Officer of Ilaro Division, the command said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at about 1:05 p.m. The statement read: “Acting on credible information, police operatives intercepted Gandonu Lowe transporting the corpse of an unknown woman on a motorcycle. The sack tied to the back of his motorcycle was untied, revealing the body of an adult female, later identified as his wife.”
The body reportedly bore marks of violence and bleeding around the neck, suggesting foul play. A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the scene. Lowe was taken into custody, while the victim’s remains were evacuated to the State Morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the anonymous informant whose tip-off led to the arrest and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information. He emphasized that even slight suspicions, when reported promptly, could save lives.
The case echoes a similar incident in November 2022, when a Lagos man, identified as Akpos, allegedly burned his wife, Risikat, to death at their residence in Ijanikin, Lagos State. According to reports, an argument between the couple escalated, and Akpos reportedly poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene.
