Lagos announces eight-month traffic diversion on Lekki-Ajah corridor

The Lagos State Government has announced that road rehabilitation works on the Lekki-Ajah corridor will commence on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and continue through Wednesday, July 15, 2026, spanning eight months.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, the project aims to improve road quality and ease traffic flow along one of the state’s busiest routes.

“The Lagos State Government has announced road rehabilitation works on Lekki-Ajah corridor commencing from Saturday, 15th November, 2025 to Wednesday, 15th July, 2026, a period of eight months,” the statement, also shared on his X account, read.

Project phases

Phase 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate

This phase covers seven sections of the expressway. One lane will be closed at a time while motorists use the second lane. Work will shift to the other lane once the first is completed.

“Motorists going to Lekki and Ajah will have through fare throughout Phase 1,” the statement assured.

Phase 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge

Phase 2 focuses on four sections of the corridor. Traffic diversions will ensure continued movement: motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will use one lane while repairs are conducted on the other. Once completed, work will move to the second lane. Motorists heading towards Ajah will have uninterrupted movement throughout this phase.

Advisory to motorists

The Lagos State Government appealed to residents and road users for patience and cooperation, stressing that the temporary inconvenience will result in long-term improvements.

“Some sections of the road will be partially closed during the repair period. Motorists are advised to follow traffic directions. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve road quality and ease traffic flow,” the statement read.

Commissioner Osiyemi reaffirmed that the rehabilitation aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and infrastructural renewal across Lagos. Commuters were urged to plan journeys accordingly and comply with all traffic management personnel deployed to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Earlier in September, the state began rehabilitation on the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway, covering the Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge (Ajah) stretch in Eti-Osa Local Government Area and Eti-Osa East LCDA.
