Renowned Nigerian businessman and chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, has passed away at the age of 67.
According to a statement released by his family and reported by Arise News on Wednesday, Ibru died following a brief illness. However, further details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not been disclosed.
A prominent figure in Nigeria’s corporate landscape, Ibru was a key heir to the influential Ibru dynasty, and played a pivotal role in sustaining and expanding the business empire founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru. The conglomerate’s interests spanned shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and general commerce.
His passing comes less than a decade after the death of his father, Michael Ibru, who died in 2016.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Tributes have begun pouring in from across the country. Media entrepreneur and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, expressed his condolences in an Instagram post on Wednesday, describing Ibru as:
“An extremely friendly gentleman and a socialite per excellence, who was loved so passionately by families and friends… He was the son of the business titan, Olorogun Michael Ibru. Rest in peace, dear brother…”
