Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Cole Palmer is fit and available to face Manchester United in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Maresca provided an update on Palmer and shared that final decisions on the rest of the squad will be made following the team’s last training session later today.
“Yes, Cole is okay,” Maresca said. “We have a training session now where we’ll look at the players. We flew back yesterday [from Munich], so we need to assess some of the guys before we make a decision for the weekend.”
The Blues are looking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, with a quick turnaround as they prepare to face Ruben Amorim’s side in Saturday’s evening kickoff.
With limited recovery time since the trip to Germany, Maresca admitted that several players remain injury doubts.
“We haven’t had a session since the game on Wednesday. We have some doubts, but we’ll see after today’s training session,” he added.
Meanwhile, young striker Marc Guiu could feature in the matchday squad after being recalled early from his loan at Sunderland earlier this month. His return follows the injury to Liam Delap, and Maresca confirmed the 18-year-old is in contention for selection.
“Marc Guiu is back, and the reason why is because we intend to use him,” Maresca said. “He’s a good player. While there are still things he can improve, we know what he offers, and for sure, we are going to use him.”
The match against Manchester United offers Chelsea a chance to regain momentum in the league and test their depth as the fixture schedule intensifies.
