President Bola Tinubu has reversed the recent appointments made in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), ordering the reinstatement of Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as Director-General and Ayo Adewuyi as Executive Director of News.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced the reversal in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to Onanuga, the President has restored the tenures of the two senior executives, which had been briefly interrupted by a reshuffle in NTA’s leadership.
On August 20, Tinubu had approved a new management team for the NTA, appointing Rotimi Pedro as Director-General and Stella Din as Executive Director of News. He also appointed Karimah Bello as Executive Director of Marketing and Sophia Mohammed as Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited.
However, Onanuga clarified that Dembos, who was originally appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023, will now return to complete his three-year tenure.
“Dembos was appointed DG of the TV network by President Tinubu in October 2023. He will now return to complete his three-year tenure,” the statement read.
Similarly, Adewuyi, who was appointed in 2024, has also been directed to resume his role and complete his tenure, which is scheduled to end in 2027.
“The President similarly directed the recall of Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, to complete his three-year tenure,” Onanuga added.
The directive effectively nullifies the previously announced appointments of Pedro, Din, Bello, and Mohammed.
This development marks the latest instance of the Tinubu administration reversing its own appointment decisions. In August, the President also rescinded the reappointment of Muheeba Dankaka as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC)—just hours after her second five-year term had been announced.
