The Nigeria Police Force on Sunday announced the successful repatriation of a high-profile fugitive, Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the repatriation followed a landmark operation carried out in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).
Dai Qisheng, described as a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for orchestrating and leading violent organised crimes, fled his home country in 2024 after a warrant was issued for his arrest by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County.
Determined to escape justice, Qisheng sought refuge in Nigeria. However, operatives of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja tracked and placed him under surveillance before arresting him in the nation’s capital on August 8, 2025.
“Following his arrest, the fugitive was repatriated on August 15, 2025, to Beijing under the established framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL,” the statement read.
Adejobi hailed the development as a “landmark operation” that underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to combating transnational organised crime.
“This operation not only reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds safe haven within Nigeria but also highlights the strength of international partnerships in addressing the increasingly complex threats posed by global crime networks,” the statement added.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, also reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to enhancing international cooperation, leveraging intelligence-sharing and operational coordination to ensure national borders do not become barriers to justice.
He emphasized that the arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a strong message to criminals across the world—that Nigeria will not serve as a sanctuary for fugitives.
