Lagos announces two-day traffic diversion on Osborne road

Osborn Road, Ikoyi
The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion around Osborne Road in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, from 10 p.m. on Friday, August 15 to midnight on Sunday, August 17, to facilitate critical drainage infrastructure work.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

According to Osiyemi, the diversion is necessary to allow the construction of a cross culvert that will connect the newly built drains along Modupe Alakija Crescent to the underground drainage system beneath the median on Osborne Road.

“The construction will require cutting through a section of Osborne Road before Foreshore Towers,” he explained. “To minimise traffic disruptions during this period, a traffic management plan will be in place throughout the two-day closure.”

Osiyemi said a contraflow arrangement will be implemented on Osborne/Alfred Rewane Road, covering approximately 100 meters from Modupe Alakija Crescent to the Alfred Rewane Road junction. Motorists heading to Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road will be diverted into a contraflow lane on the opposite carriageway before rejoining their normal lane. Meanwhile, motorists heading towards Alfred Rewane Road from Osborne Road will be restricted to a single lane to accommodate the contraflow.

For those seeking alternative routes, motorists traveling from Osborne Road to Alfred Rewane Road are advised to use Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue, then connect via Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road. Similarly, motorists heading to Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road should take Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road to link up with Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue.

The commissioner assured the public that Osborne Road will be fully reopened by Monday, August 18, and that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage traffic and minimise inconvenience throughout the period.
