Ekiti governor dissolves cabinet, retains AG, others

With the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State drawing closer, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council, effective immediately.

The announcement was made in a statement issued late Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, who confirmed that all political appointees under the Executive Council have been affected by the dissolution.

According to Adubiaro, affected commissioners and special advisers have been directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

“Governor Oyebanji thanks the affected members of the State Executive Council for their selfless service to the state and wishes them success in their future endeavours,” the statement said.

However, the dissolution exempts several key officials, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, the Commissioner for Education, the Commissioner for Works, the Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives, the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, and the Special Adviser on Lands, Survey, and e-GIS.

In addition, Directors General who are members of the Executive Council are retained. These include the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the Director General of Sustainable Development Goals and Project Monitoring, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Governor Oyebanji, who assumed office on October 16, 2022, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is seeking re-election in the upcoming 2026 governorship poll.
