The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Mr. Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED).

Police spokesperson Olusola Ayanlade said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, and was reported at the Fanibi Division in Akure.

“I can confirm that the man was killed. From preliminary reports, two men emerged from the bush and forced a substance into another person’s mouth. We cannot yet confirm if the substance was poisonous—only an autopsy can determine that,” Ayanlade said.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

UNIMED’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Oluyi, described the incident as shocking and said the university community is in mourning. He noted that Adeniran was at work as recently as Monday, July 14, and that the cause of death remains unclear.

Adeniran was appointed the university’s third substantive registrar on January 6, 2025, and served in the role until his untimely death. His remains have been deposited at a nearby hospital morgue.
