Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a fourfold increase in the monthly allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.
The new allowance will take effect from August 1, 2025.
Governor Eno announced the development during the second day of the State Delivery Meeting held on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.
He explained that the increment is designed to complement the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance and help corps members meet their basic needs while serving.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” the governor said.
The announcement follows the governor’s recent approval for the reconstruction of the NYSC orientation camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai, as part of broader efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of corps members in the state.
Established in 1973, the NYSC is a compulsory one-year service scheme for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30. It was created to promote national unity and integration by deploying graduates to states outside their regions of origin to contribute to community development.
Corps members are actively involved in key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development.
