Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a clearance operation in Kwesati community, Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation is part of an ongoing effort to eliminate bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements from the state.

In a statement issued by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the successful encounter was the result of credible intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits in the area.

“Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits, troops stationed at Kwesati swiftly deployed and tactically positioned themselves along a suspected crossing route,” the statement read.

The troops reportedly made contact with the criminals and engaged them with superior firepower. The intensity of the firefight forced the bandits to flee into the surrounding forest, with several believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. One bandit was confirmed neutralised during the exchange.

Following the encounter, troops conducted a thorough sweep of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine loaded with three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and bravery. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements until peace is fully restored across the state.

He also urged the public to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to support security operations.

According to the statement, the success of this operation reflects the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of communities across Taraba State.
