The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has stepped down from his position.
Though official confirmation is still pending, a source within the APC national headquarters in Abuja told our correspondent that the National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to announce an acting chairman soon.
“Yes, Ganduje has resigned, and most of his personal belongings have been moved from the APC national secretariat,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to comment publicly on the matter.
As of Friday evening, the specific circumstances surrounding Ganduje’s resignation remain unclear.
When our correspondent visited the APC national secretariat, clusters of party supporters were seen gathered outside the premises, discussing the development and awaiting a formal statement from the party leadership.
Efforts to reach APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, appeared to confirm the development in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“The National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, as confirmed by multiple sources,” Ahmad wrote.
He further stated that Ganduje would be succeeded in an acting capacity by one of the party’s national vice chairmen, pending the election of a substantive chairman at the national convention scheduled for December 2025.
The APC is yet to issue an official statement as of the time of this report.
