Iran’s government has downplayed concerns following U.S. airstrikes on three of its nuclear facilities on Sunday, insisting there is no immediate threat to public safety.
“There is no danger to people living near our nuclear sites,” government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on state television. “Residents of Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo can continue their lives as normal.”
In response to the attacks, Iranian officials also emphasized the resilience of the country’s nuclear program, asserting that its scientific and technical foundations remain intact despite the damage.
“Our nuclear expertise cannot be destroyed,” said Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, in comments carried by the Tasnim news agency. “This industry is deeply rooted in our nation. While we have sustained damage, this is not the first time our nuclear infrastructure has come under attack.”
The U.S. has not yet officially commented on the extent or objectives of the strikes.
